Embracing Challenges for a Life of Ease: Why Doing Hard Things Matters
previous post
Imagine hearing a story from someone close to you
about a family member who encountered a flat tire on her bike. As the tale
unfolds, it prompts deep reflection on the contrasts between an easy life and
the hurdles that accompany it. It also serves as a reminder of personal
journeys and the challenging endeavors undertaken to reach desired
destinations.
When I was younger, there were times when life was far from easy. I vividly recall a day when I was cycling to work and got caught in a relentless downpour halfway through my journey. I had no choice but to keep going, even though I was getting completely drenched. Arriving at work, soaked from head to toe, I spent the entire day in wet clothes, feeling frustrated and cursing my luck.
Looking back, those experiences taught me valuable lessons. I realized that a hard life can be like a never-ending abyss, one that is difficult to escape from. However, my path took a different turn when I had the opportunity to go to college. My parents, who had never had the chance to pursue higher education, insisted that I continue my studies. At the time, I believed that having a steady income would make life easier, but they knew better. They understood that true ease comes from education and personal growth.
Obtaining an education is not an easy feat. Learning new skills, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and making sacrifices all require effort. Yet, what is the alternative? Many of us have family members or friends who live challenging lives, facing dead-end jobs, poor health, and a lack of freedom. These hardships stem from a reluctance to do the hard things that lead to a life of ease.
Personally, I have always strived for a life that surpasses limitations. That’s why I have never shied away from doing hard things. Now, as I enjoy the freedom to work on what I love and live life on my own terms, I can genuinely say that my life feels easier compared to the past.
As Theodore Roosevelt once wisely said, “Nothing worth having comes easy.” When faced with challenges that seem insurmountable, it is essential to remember why we put ourselves through these difficulties. We do it because we refuse to settle for a hard life. We strive for a life of freedom, comfort, and fulfillment.
While we work towards an easier life, we must acknowledge that it is an ongoing process. We must continue to work hard, persevere, and never lose sight of our goals. Each day brings new opportunities to grow, and the hard work we put in is always worth it.
Embracing challenges and doing hard things is a fundamental part of our journey towards an easier life. It may be difficult at times, but by pushing through and striving for personal growth, we can experience the rewards of an abundant and fulfilling life. So, let us remember that an easy life is not something we stumble upon; it is something we actively work towards, each day bringing us closer to our goals.
